NaNoWriMo
Here I am, on day seven of NaNoWriMo. It only took five days to switch gears entirely. Remember in my last post one of the bits of advice I gave was to go with the flow? Well, I did just that and ended up starting a new story. It started with a rather elaborate dream and is already taking on a life of its own. I plan on rolling with this for a while because it’s rather intriguing, and I have no idea where its going. Which happens to me quite often. I just roll with it, and a lot of the time the story basically writes itself. It’s really weird watching myself write and being surprised by what’s happening in the story. But that’s just how I do it.
Now, when I’m writing scholarly works it’s very linear and I usually have a pretty clear idea of where it’s going. Sometimes, as I’m doing research for it, I will come up with information I wasn’t expecting, but that’s not the same. And I realized over the last week that I have been writing so much in the scholarly realm that I am finding it a bit difficult to write creatively. That is, until I started this new story. Now it’s flowing pretty well. Not amazing, but well enough. I suspect this will get easier as I go. Like anything, writing is an art, and it takes practice.

RPGs
On the note of RPGs, I am going to shamelessly plug a friend here, just because I can. A dear friend of mine is running a Kickstarter right now for the second edition of his RPG, Eldritch. He’s been involved in the RPG realm pretty much forever, and I highly recommend you head on over and check it out. You can find it here. If you can, please consider backing this project. Supporting the indie creator is what keeps the world going ‘round.

MMOs
As for MMOs, I do love me some games. I’ve been playing New World for the past month, and I am disappointed I can’t say I’m impressed with it. I like it well enough; I really enjoy the fishing in it, but there’s a lot that I would change. And with all the problems it’s had, I’ve really cut back on the amount of time I’ve been playing. Which is fine, because it means I’m playing Guild Wars 2 again. I’ve invested five years into the game, and I really enjoy it. There’s plenty for me to do, I love the holiday events, and I am part of a good guild. So, I will stick with GW2. At least, when I’m not writing.

Oh my
I try not to think about the time change too much; it makes it easier to adjust to the change on the clock. My critters, however, would like to know why their breakfast was an hour late this morning. And will, no doubt, complain this evening. I guess one upside is that I get an “extra” hour to write today. Which I’m utilizing to write this blog post. It’ cold and windy outside, and despite the controlled temp indoors, the critters are cuddled up as if they’re freezing, and quite happy that I’ve decided to write in bed today. It’s times like these I like to stop and just soak up the quiet, and appreciate the fuzziness that surrounds me. The chaos of the world can shrink away for a time. I’ve got everything I need right here.
